Background Checks

If you wish to help your team in the field or in the dugout, at games or practices, you must have a valid background check on file and be approved as a volunteer by the LGSA.

Background checks cost $15 and are valid for 1-year from the date of order.  

Background Check Process

1. REGISTER HERE

2. Follow the instructions on the volunteer application and if directed, order a background check through our background check provider.

3. LGSA will be notified when your background check is complete and will review it. If approved, you will receive an email from the background check system informing you that your background check has been approved and that you are now eligible to serve as a volunteer.  This is the only notification you will receive.

4. Your manager will then be given a volunteer badge and neck lanyard for you to wear (typically 1-2 weeks from the time of league approval).


FAQs

Q: I have a background check through another organization, can I use it for LGSA?
A: No, LSGA does not have access to other organizations' background checks. However; if you have a background check for another organization that utilizes the same background check provider as LGSA, during the order process you will be asked if you wish to share that background check with LGSA rather than ordering a new one.

Q: I volunteered and ordered an LGSA background during a previous season, do I need to do it again?
A: Even if you previously volunteered, you must register each season.  Assuming you had a background check on file from a previous season, it will be reviewed to determine if it is still active and valid.  If it has expired, an email will be sent to you inviting you to renew your background check (be sure to check your Spam folder).  If your previous background check has not expired, you will not receive any further communications and you can expect your badge in 1-2 weeks from the date of registration.  If you have questions about your status, your manager has been provided a status report of all volunteers for the season.

Note: Background checks are valid for 1-year from the date of order.

Q: I registered and ordered my background check, but I haven't received any approvals or follow-up emails.
A: Check your spam folder.  When your background check has been reviewed and approved by the league, you will receive an approval email from the background check system;  At that point, you are approved to volunteer and your badge should be prepared and delivered to your manager. Typically,  background checks are processed and approved within 2-5 days of being ordered with another week needed to prepare and deliver the badges.

Note: If you are a previous volunteer with an existing and active background check, you will not receive an approval email from the background check system.

Q: I ordered my background check and received the approval email, but where is my badge?
A: Check with your manager, as they have been provided with a status report of all team volunteers and badges.  Generally speaking, you can expect your badge within 2 weeks of receiving approval.  If it's been less than 2 weeks since you received approval, give it a few more days and check with your Manager.

Q: I am the Team Manager, do I need to order a background check?
A: No, the Manager (head coach) should not follow this process, your background checks are ordered by the league using a different process/system.  

Q: I am helping my team off the field and will not be in contact with the players, do I need a background check?
A: No; Off-field volunteers such as snack and banner coordinators do not need a background check.  Only those volunteers who will be interacting with the players on the field or in the dugout during games or practices need to be background checked.

A: The registration link will generally be active within a week of the draft and teams being formed.  If not active, check back in a few days.
